  • ● As of February 12th, we have reached day four of Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial. Since the 9th, the House impeachment managers have made the case that Trump incited the insurrection at the Capitol on the day of the electoral vote count. The violent riots have been shown in a new light through a series of graphic unseen footage, which was shown during day two. Although there is a strong case to be made for Trump’s conviction, his team defended his speeches by saying his speeches were simply patriotic. (CNN)

  • ● The University of Oregon announced on Feb. 9th that there will be a virtual graduation ceremony for the class of 2021. According to their message, there will be more information in the spring, as well as an in-person celebration in the future. (University of Oregon)

  • ● The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the 55th Super Bowl this year against the Kansa City Chiefs, with a score of 31 to 9. Tom Brady has now obtained 7 Super Bowl rings and a fifth MVP award. (ESPN)

  • ● The New York Times’ documentary “Framing Britney Spears” has become widely talked about this week. It delves into Britney Spears’ infamous court-sanctioned conservatorship and the lack of autonomy she has had under this. The film shows faults by the media, her father, and Justin Timberlake, which have led Timberlake to issue a public apology to Spears. (New York Times)

  • ● There has been a tragic rise in violence against Asain-Americans in the Bay Area and other cities, specifically seniors. In one case, a 64-year-old woman in San Jose was robbed of cash she had withdrawn for the Lunar New Year. These recent events have rattled the nerves of many and prompted more police presence in neighborhoods like San Francisco’s Chinatown. (NPR)

  • ● Taylor Swift has released her new re-recording of “Love Story,” now named “Love Story (Taylor’s Version),” as well as an announcement about the new version of “Fearless.” This comes after she decided to gain back ownership of her first six albums, which were all sold by Scooter Braun for $300 million in 2020.
