● On April 9th, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, died at 99 after 70 years of service to Queen Elizabeth. He got married to the Queen on November 21,1947 and was the father to Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward. (NYT)

● Lil Nas X’s new hit Montero (Call Me by Your Name) was released on March 26 and has caused quite a stir on social media since then. The music video was noted for being eerily similar to FKA Twigs’ “Cellophane” video by its director Andrew Huang, but Lil Nas X promptly addressed it and apologized for their parallels. Simultaneously, the Satan Shoes that were being sold, which have a devil theme and contain one drop of human blood, have been recalled after Nike settled a lawsuit. This settlement resolves a trademark infringement suit, as the pair feature the Nike “swoosh” and were sold out at $1018. (Rolling Stone and The Guardian)

● Derek Chauvin’s 2-4 week long trial has started its 9th day. He faces charges for manslaughter, second-degree murder, and third-degree murder after the death of George Floyd. So far, an L.A.P.D. Sergeant has said Chauvin’s use of force was excessive, followed by a pulmonologist testifying that Floyd’s death was caused by lack of oxygen and testimonies from the Minneapolis police chief and paramedics that arrived at the scene. Doctors and toxicologists also added that they saw no evidence of a drug overdose, contrary to the argument that the defense used. (NYT)

● President Biden announced a $3 trillion plan on March 25th to help the economy by investing in infrastructure, education, the fight against climate change, and work force development. It may be financed partially with tax increases on corporations and the wealthy. (NYT)

● In regards to the Covid-19 vaccine, Oregon residents 16 and older are eligible starting April 19th. Across the U.S, 34.9% of Americans have received the first shot and 20.8% are fully vaccinated.
