During an ongoing pandemic, we have adapted to having interviews for internships and jobs through video chat. Here are a few helpful tips to prepare for a Zoom interview:
Research Learning more about the Company or Organization that you hope to work for will help give you an understanding of their values, their work, and their image. Sometimes finding outside resources about the company such as reading an article or listening to a podcast interview can help you have an outside perspective of them. Knowing more about the Company or Organization also helps you find questions that you could ask at the end of the interview.
Practice Personally, I think that looking up frequently asked interview questions helps me feel more prepared. Practicing by yourself or having a friend or family member ask these questions, can help you have a better understanding of how you want to approach sample interview questions. This is one of the ways that helps me build up my confidence before going in for an interview.
Arrive Earlier I think that showing up a few minutes before your scheduled interview shows how much you care and demonstrates good time management skills. Oftentimes, you aren’t let in the Zoom call until your scheduled time, but it’s always better to arrive earlier than later.
Dress the Part Although it’s only through Zoom, I think dressing the part shows the amount of effort you are willing to put in and makes you look more presentable. Simply wearing a blazer and a business casual blouse shows that you are simply dressed to impress.
Be Yourself This is the best advice that I’ve received when going into interviews. I think that truly showing who you are, even especially outside of your work experience, helps hiring managers get to know your personality aside from your résumé. The whole point of the interview is for the hiring managers to see if you would be a good fit for the team and showing who you are helps them make that decision.
