As I know that we are all looking forward to Spring in Eugene now more than ever, I thought I would look into the current and upcoming trends for this season. The transition between Winter and Spring is the perfect time to pull out your favorite sweaters, scarves, and puffers before it warms up. Knowing Eugene, though, it's hard to predict when it'll be full-on t-shirt weather. Whether you are dreaming of river days at Alton Baker Park, a road trip to the coast, or a classic picnic at Washburne Park, here are a few trends that I think will be all the rage.
The Basics
Continuing the ever-increasing trend of 90s inspired basics, these pieces are particularly good for creating a capsule closet or making your wardrobe more interchangeable. Recently I have seen an influx of Scandinavian style, with Matilda Djerf being at the forefront. Matilda’s company Djerf Avenue has perfected the art of basics and her influence has definitely reached the U.S. Some essential basics that you may see more of this Spring are white tanks, oversized button-down shirts, baby tees, and trousers in all shades of neutrals, which many flock towards Aritzia for.
The Trendy Pieces
Although it is best to steer away from micro trends for the sake of your wallet and the environment, this can be hard to do when trend cycles are becoming shorter and shorter. To combat this individually, it is good to practice mindfully shopping, getting use out of the item that you’re purchasing, and shopping sustainably when you are able to. With that, I’m predicting the usual pastels and florals for Spring but with a recurrence of the boho, 70s looks that were initially brought back in the 2000s. These include crochet and knitwear, peasant blouses, flared jeans, maxi skirts, and overalls. I think the early 2000s trends really aren’t going anywhere, especially low-rise everything (much to the dismay of many Millennials). Other trends that I think will only get more popular are the feminine and romantic Réalisation Par-like dresses that make you dream of Italian summers, or streetwear-inspired styles like Agolde's longer denim cutoff shorts and New Balance sneakers that your dad might already own.
The Details
As we have seen the past year or two and now more recently, I think that claw clips, beaded necklaces, colorful and sleek nails, and layered gold jewelry will still be popular. My interpretation of the trendy Spring and Summer accessories is a crossover between 2000s Hawaii and Polly Pocket-esque colors and shapes. The Emi Jay “Super Bloom” plumeria-inspired clips and platform sandals seem to highlight this theme, as well. The beauty of accessorizes, though, is that you can mix, match, minimize, or maximize it as you please! :)
